Cream Earl Grey
An Earl Grey variation adding vanilla, and sometimes cornflower petals, to soften bergamot’s floral bitterness. It is the most popular of the many Earl Grey derivatives, and like the original it has no standard formula — the vanilla may be natural or synthetic and the base may be anything.
Character
Rounder and sweeter than standard Earl Grey, with vanilla filling in under the bergamot. It takes milk far better than the original does, which is much of why it exists.

History
A late twentieth-century variation adding vanilla to the bergamot base, developed for markets that found Earl Grey austere. Its popularity is a good indicator of how far the Earl Grey name has drifted from any original recipe.
