TRFK 31/8 does that, propagates readily from cuttings, and performs at the altitudes where most Kenyan tea sits. The corresponding exposure is the familiar one: a national crop carried by a handful of clones is a narrow genetic base facing a changing climate, and Kenya's own research programme has said so.

Almost nothing a drinker experiences in a mainstream teabag can be traced to this cultivar, and that is the interesting fact rather than a dismissal. CTC processing — cut, tear, curl — is a violent, standardising manufacture designed to produce a fast-extracting uniform particle, and it flattens cultivar differences far more thoroughly than orthodox processing does. On top of that, a supermarket blend is assembled from many gardens and several countries and rebalanced batch by batch to hit a fixed target, so consistency is manufactured downstream by a blender. TRFK 31/8's real contribution is agronomic: it is why the raw material exists in that volume at that price.
