Compare two teas

Moonlight White

月光白

White tea

Bai Mudan

白牡丹

White tea

Why these two get confused

Moonlight white is large-leaf Yunnan material withered indoors so the upper surface darkens and the downy underside stays pale. Whether it belongs in the white category at all, rather than among lightly worked pu-erh raw materials, is genuinely disputed in the trade.

Cultural contextCategorisation is genuinely contested. Made by white-tea processing but from pu-erh material in a pu-erh region, it is sold sometimes as white tea and sometimes as a Yunnan speciality. TeaHQ files it as white tea because processing defines category, and records the disagreement here rather than resolving it silently. Not recorded for this tea.

Nothing above is a recommendation. The last row describes the drinker each tea suits, using each tea’s own authored fields and the same sentence structure for both, so neither can be framed as the safe choice.
