Krasnodar
A narrow strip of the Black Sea coast behind Sochi, at roughly 43–44 degrees north, and the northernmost commercially harvested tea anywhere. The Caucasus range blocks continental cold air from the interior, but winters are still severe enough that only frost-hardy selections survive and the harvest runs for a few months rather than most of the year. Plantings around Solokh-Aul, Dagomys and Matsesta date from the early twentieth century and remain small.
