Storage advice for tea is nearly unanimous — keep out air, light, heat and moisture — and there is exactly one category where following it destroys what you bought the tea for. Dark tea meant to age has to breathe, and sealing it stops the process it was bought for.

Both are ‘tea storage’, and the advice for one is actively wrong for the other. This is the clearest case in the catalogue where good general guidance ruins a specific tea.

The short answer
The rule is not ‘seal everything’ but ‘seal what fades, ventilate what develops’. Almost all tea is in the first group, which is why the exception catches people out precisely when they have bought something expensive enough to want to keep.
